About

Our Story

The team was founded in 2006 by Eric Christensen. Since then, the team has seen great growth, going from a team that struggled to compete at sectionals, to qualifying for Nationals both in 2016 and 2025. ZCU competes at a high level each year across the country and continues to be ranked in the top 25 nationally.

The 2025 season turned a new leaf for ZCU, marking its first appearance at nationals in 9 years. With a revamped and young roster, our mentality and mission changed, as we celebrate ourselves, commit to the grind, work through the uncontrollables, and keep the team fun and light-hearted. With a young team, we fought our way through a difficult Northwest region with a series of upsets to take 3rd and a trip to nationals in Burlington, WA. The momentum carried ZCU into Memorial Day weekend as we took 2nd in the pool, qualifying for the bracket, and finishing 9th overall nationally. We hope to build on that success again this year to make another deep post-season run.

Our 2025-26 Coaching Staff

Eric Christensen- Head Coach

Eric was born and raised in the Salt Lake valley, and founded teams at both Brighton High School and the University of Utah (as well as helping found Powderhogs possibly…he kind of invented ultimate in Utah). Aside from founding ZCU, Eric has been an instrumental part of ZCU’s success. He provides amazing on-on-one advice, and has a mean lefty backhand. Eric claims he works for a ski company, but he doesn’t really tell us what he does. Eric enjoys spending time with his dog, Penny, and his wife Tania, who coaches Utah’s women’s team. Eric is an assistant coach for the local UFA team the Salt Lake Shred. He enjoys bringing fast food to team meetings. He is skinnier than you’d like to think.
